Abraham’s final chapter includes his marriage to Keturah, the orderly distribution of his inheritance, and his peaceful death. In his burial, we glimpse the passing of the covenant to the next generation.

[Genesis 25:1–11]

After Rebekah became Isaac’s wife, the narrative shifts back to Abraham as he prepares for the end of his life. With the covenant continuing through Isaac, Abraham begins to set his affairs in order.

He marries a woman named Keturah, who bears him six sons. These children spread out across the east, forming their own nations and lineages.

“Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.” [25:1–2]

Though Keturah's descendants would go on to become notable tribes like the Midianites, Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac alone, according to God’s promise.

“Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts.” [25:5–6]

His handling of the inheritance was generous to all, but the covenant line was not confused. Abraham made sure Isaac alone would carry on the promise.

His life had been a long journey. From the day he left Ur, he lived in tents, trusting God's word above all. From Egypt to Canaan, from parting ways with Lot to nearly offering Isaac on Mount Moriah, Abraham’s footsteps echoed with covenant faith.

He died at the age of 175, having completed his course in faith.

“Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah.” [25:7–9]

Isaac and Ishmael, long separated, came together to bury their father. Abraham was laid beside Sarah, and a generation quietly came to a close.

“After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son. And Isaac settled at Beer-lahai-roi.” [25:11]

Isaac remained in the land, and the covenant continued. Even in Abraham’s absence, God remained faithful to His word.

Abraham’s ending was not lonely. With Isaac and Ishmael at his side, he closed his eyes in peace. His journey had been long and steady, filled with trust and obedience.

He lived 175 years holding fast to God’s promises, walking by faith one step at a time. And even in his death, God was still working—continuing the covenant with the generations to come.

That covenant still lives on. And in the lives of those who walk by faith today, the God who called Abraham still walks alongside us.

아브라함의 장례와 유산 분배 – 그두라와의 재혼 이후

[창세기 25:1–11]

리브가가 이삭의 아내로 들어온 뒤, 성경은 다시 아브라함의 마지막 순간으로 시선을 돌립니다. 이삭을 통해 언약이 이어질 준비가 된 이때, 아브라함은 자신의 생을 정리하는 시간을 맞이합니다.

아브라함은 사라의 죽음 이후, 한 여인과 재혼합니다. 그녀의 이름은 그두라였습니다. 그두라는 아브라함에게 여섯 아들을 낳았고, 그 자손들은 동방 각지로 흩어져 살아가게 됩니다.

“아브라함이 후처를 맞이하였으니 그의 이름은 그두라라 그가 시므란과 욕산과 므단과 미디안과 이스박과 수아를 낳고” [25:1–2]

그두라의 후손은 나중에 미디안 족속 등으로도 나타나며, 이스라엘과는 다른 계보를 이어갑니다. 그러나 아브라함은 하나님의 뜻에 따라, 자신의 모든 소유를 오직 이삭에게 넘깁니다.

“아브라함이 이삭에게 자기의 모든 소유를 주었고 자기 서자들에게도 재산을 주어...” [25:5–6]

유산을 나누는 그의 모습은 공정했지만, 언약의 계승만큼은 분명했습니다. 하나님의 언약은 반드시 이삭을 통해 이어져야 한다는 사실을, 아브라함은 생전에 스스로 정리했습니다.

그의 삶은 오랜 여정이었습니다. 우르를 떠난 날부터 그는 장막을 옮겨 다니며 하나님의 약속만을 붙들었습니다. 애굽을 거쳐 가나안으로, 롯과 헤어졌던 날도, 모리아산에서 이삭을 드리려 했던 순간도, 하나님의 언약은 그의 걸음 속에 숨 쉬고 있었습니다.

그는 175세를 살며, 그 믿음의 여정을 마무리합니다.

“아브라함의 향년이 백칠십오 세라 그의 나이가 높고 늙어서 기운이 다하여 죽어 자기 열조에게로 돌아가매 그의 아들들인 이삭과 이스마엘이 그를 마므레 앞 헷 족속 소할의 아들 에브론의 밭에 있는 막벨라 굴에 장사하였으니” [25:7–9]

이삭과 이스마엘, 오래전 갈라졌던 두 아들이 함께 아버지의 장례를 치릅니다. 사라가 묻힌 막벨라 굴에, 아브라함도 함께 장사됩니다. 한 시대가 끝나고, 새로운 시대가 조용히 시작됩니다.

“아브라함이 죽은 후에 하나님이 그의 아들 이삭에게 복을 주셨고 이삭은 브엘라해로이 근처에 거주하였더라” [25:11]

이삭은 그 땅에 남아, 아버지의 유산과 하나님의 언약을 이어갑니다. 하나님은 아브라함의 죽음 이후에도, 그 약속을 변함없이 이루십니다.

아브라함의 마지막은 외롭지 않았습니다. 하나님의 인도하심 아래, 이삭과 이스마엘을 곁에 두고 눈을 감았던 그의 삶은 긴 여정을 마친 자의 걸음처럼 조용하고 질서 있게 마무리되었습니다.

그는 175세를 살며, 하나님의 약속을 품고 살았고, 그분의 말씀을 따라 한 걸음 한 걸음 믿음으로 나아갔습니다. 그리고 그의 죽음 이후에도 하나님은 그 언약을 이어가시며, 그 자손들과 함께하십니다.

그 언약은 지금도 이어지고 있습니다. 믿음으로 살아가는 우리의 일상 속에도, 아브라함을 부르신 그분이 여전히 함께하십니다.
