Where Are You? – The Fall of Adam and Eve and God’s Graceful Question
Eden was a place of beauty and completeness. God allowed Adam and Eve to enjoy everything—except the fruit of one tree: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then one day, the serpent whispered to Eve, “You’ll be like God if you eat it.”
She looked at the tree. The fruit looked delicious, pleasing to the eye, and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she reached out, took it, and ate it. Adam ate it too. In that moment, sin entered the world. The two who had never known shame now felt exposed. They hid among the trees, overwhelmed by a new and uncomfortable feeling.
God came looking for them and called out, “Where are you?” It was not a harsh accusation, but a tender question. Even in their sin, God was seeking them.
Though they had to leave Eden, God still covered them. He made garments of skin and clothed them. His care did not end with their failure.
Grace Begins Again – When God Asks, “Where Are You?”
Before asking, “Why did you do it?” God first asked, “Where are you?” That question still echoes in our hearts today.
There are days when guilt weighs us down. We just want to hide, avoid everyone’s eyes, and pretend nothing happened. But on days like that, God quietly asks, “Where are you?”
He doesn’t shame us. Instead, He gently comes—through a song, a prayer, or the quiet comfort of a friend.
And when I slowly began to open my heart, I think that’s when it started. Grace, starting again—right there.

에덴동산에서 벌어진 유혹과 타락의 이야기. 죄 가운데서도 우리를 부르신 하나님의 은혜와 사랑의 이야기를 들려드릴게요.
에덴은 완전한 곳이었습니다. 하나님은 동산 안의 모든 것을 누릴 수 있도록 허락하셨지만, 단 하나—선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매만은 먹지 말라고 하셨습니다.
그러던 어느 날, 뱀이 하와에게 다가와 속삭였습니다. “그 열매를 먹으면, 하나님처럼 될 수 있어.”
하와는 그 나무를 바라보았습니다. 열매는 먹음직스러워 보였고, 눈을 끌었고, 지혜롭게 할 만큼 탐스럽게 보였어요. 결국 하와는 손을 뻗었고, 아담도 함께 그 열매를 먹고 말았습니다. 그 순간, 죄가 세상에 들어오게 되었습니다.
부끄러움을 모르던 두 사람은, 갑자기 밀려온 낯선 감정에 몸을 숨겼습니다. 그전까지는 감출 필요도, 숨을 이유도 없었지만 이제는 서로를 바라보는 시선조차 불편했고, 감추고 싶은 마음이 처음 생긴 거예요.
그때, 하나님이 아담을 부르십니다. “네가 어디 있느냐.”
그 말은 꾸짖음이 아니었습니다. 죄의 무게에 눌려서 숨어 있는 인간을 향한, 하나님의 다정한 첫 질문이었습니다. 아담은 대답했고, 하나님은 그들을 찾아오셨습니다. 죄를 지었지만, 하나님은 여전히 그들과 함께하셨습니다.
결국 두 사람은 에덴동산을 떠나야만 했습니다. 그러나 하나님은 그들을 그냥 내버려 두지 않으셨어요. 가죽옷을 지어 입히시며, 여전히 보호하고 돌보셨습니다. 사랑은 조건을 따지지 않았고, 하나님의 돌보심은 그들의 실수보다 깊고 컸습니다.
다시 시작되는 은혜 – 하나님이 물으시는 그 순간
하나님은 “왜 그랬느냐”보다 먼저 “어디 있느냐”라고 물으셨습니다. 그 질문은 오늘 우리에게도 여전히 들려옵니다.
죄책감에 눌릴 때가 있습니다. 그냥 숨고 싶고, 사람들 눈도 피하고 싶고… 아무 일도 없던 것처럼 지나가길 바라는 날도 있죠. 그런데 그런 날, 하나님이 조용히 제 마음에 물으십니다. “지금, 너는 어디 있느냐.”
도망치던 저한테, 정죄도 안 하시고, 그냥… 찬양으로, 기도로, 친구의 따뜻한 위로로 하나님은 가만히 다가오셨습니다.
그렇게 마음을 조금 열게 되었고, 그때부터였던 것 같아요. 은혜가 다시 시작된 건.
