The Garden of Eden was a perfect place. Yet with one moment of temptation and choice, humanity fell. At that very moment, God asked, “Where are you?” In this reflection, let’s follow the path of desire, decision, and downfall—and rediscover the grace of God woven throughout the story.
Genesis 3 – The Choice Before Desire, and the Fall
Temptation – To See, To Desire, To Take
The Garden of Eden was complete in every way. God let Adam and Eve enjoy everything within it—except for one tree, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One day, the serpent came to Eve and whispered, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” [Genesis 3:5]
Eve looked at the tree. The fruit looked delicious, pleasing to the eye, and desirable for gaining wisdom. In that moment, desire arose—and doubt quietly shook her trust.
Choice – The Moment I Reach Out
Eve reached out and took the fruit, and Adam ate with her. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” [Genesis 3:6] Then came shame. They sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves and hid among the trees in the garden.
Emotions they had never felt before—shame, fear, the urge to hide. That was the beginning of sin and the fall.
The Fall – God Calls the One Who Hides
But God called to them. “But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’” [Genesis 3:9] This was not a voice of condemnation, but a voice searching for hearts crushed by sin. God did not stop caring for Adam and Eve.
Though they had to leave Eden, God made garments of skin for them. “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” [Genesis 3:21] Love did not depend on worthiness. His care reached beyond their failure. Even in the fall, His grace had already begun.
My Heart Standing Before Temptation
We stand before moments of choice every day. We want more, aim higher, and often feel our own reasoning is better than God’s. Sometimes, we don’t even recognize the temptation—we choose without thinking, and only later look back with regret. In those moments, I long for God to gently ask me:
“Where are you?”
That question doesn’t shame me—it feels like an invitation. A tender voice calling me out from hiding, inviting me to return. Today, God comes to find us again—through worship, through prayer, and through the kind words of a friend.

선악과의 유혹과 인간의 타락 – 창세기 3장
에덴동산은 완전한 곳이었어요. 하지만 한순간의 유혹과 선택으로 인해 인간의 타락이 시작되었지요. 그 순간, 하나님은 “네가 어디 있느냐”고 물으셨습니다. 이 글에서는 유혹, 선택, 타락의 과정을 따라가며, 그 안에 담긴 하나님의 은혜를 다시한번 생각해보기로 해요.
욕망 앞에 선 선택, 그리고 타락
유혹 – 보고, 원하고, 탐내다
에덴동산은 모든 것이 완전한 곳이었습니다. 하나님은 그 안에서 아담과 하와에게 모든 것을 누리게 하셨지만 단 하나, 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 금지하셨어요. 그러던 어느 날, 뱀이 하와에게 다가와 속삭였어요. “너희가 그것을 먹는 날에는 너희 눈이 밝아져 하나님과 같이 되어 선악을 알 줄 하나님이 아심이니라” [3:5]
하와는 나무를 바라보았어요. 열매는 먹음직도 하고, 보암직도 하고, 지혜롭게 할 만큼 탐스럽게 보였습니다. 욕망은 그 순간 피어났고, 의심은 조용히 믿음을 흔들었습니다.
선택 – 내 손으로 결정하는 순간
하와는 손을 뻗어 열매를 따먹었고, 아담도 함께 먹었습니다. “여자가 그 나무를 본즉 먹음직도 하고 보암직도 하고 지혜롭게 할 만큼 탐스럽기도 한 나무인지라 … 그 남편도 함께 주매 그도 먹은지라” [3:6] 부끄러움을 모르던 그들에게 수치심이 찾아왔고, 그들은 무화과 나무 잎을 엮어 치마로 삼았습니다. 그리고 하나님을 피해 동산 나무 사이에 숨었어요.
그 전에는 느껴보지 못했던 감정. 감춰야 할 것, 피해야 할 분, 숨고 싶은 마음. 그것이 타락 그리고 죄의 시작이었습니다.
타락 – 숨은 자를 부르시는 하나님
하지만 하나님은 그들을 부르셨어요. “여호와 하나님이 아담을 부르시며 그에게 이르시되 네가 어디 있느냐” [3:9] 그 질문은 책망이 아니라, 죄에 눌린 사람을 찾아오시는 하나님의 음성이었습니다. 하나님은 아담과 하와를 향한 돌보심을 멈추지 않으셨어요.
아담과 하와는 결국 에덴에서 떠나야 했지만, 하나님은 그들에게 가죽옷을 지어 입히셨습니다. “여호와 하나님이 아담과 그의 아내를 위하여 가죽옷을 지어 입히시니라” [3:21] 사랑은 조건을 따지지 않았고, 돌보심은 실패보다 넓었습니다. 타락의 끝에도 하나님의 은혜는 시작되고 있었던 것이지요.
유혹 앞에 선 나의 마음
우리는 늘 선택의 순간 앞에 서 있어요. 갖고 싶은 것, 더 나아지고 싶은 마음, 내 생각이 더 옳다고 느껴지는 순간들. 그런 마음속에서는 하나님보다 내 판단을 더 믿고 싶어질 때가 있어요. 때로는 유혹인지조차 모르고 스쳐 지나갈 때도 있죠. 생각 없이 선택하고, 나중에서야 돌아보며 후회할 때도 있어요. 그럴 때, 저는 하나님이 조용히 물어봐주시길 바랍니다.
“지금, 너는 어디 있느냐.”
그 질문은 정죄와 책망이 아니라 오히려 초대라고 느껴져요. 내가 숨어 있던 곳에서, 다시 돌아오라고 부르시는 하나님의 따스한 음성이죠. 오늘도 하나님은 우리를 찾아오세요—찬양 가운데, 기도 가운데, 친구의 따뜻한 말 속에서요.
