In a time when the earth was filled with wickedness, Noah stood apart. He walked with God, living righteously while the rest of the world drifted into darkness.

God looked upon the earth and saw that it was ruined by violence. “The earth is filled with violence because of them, and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” [Genesis 6:13] With that, God gave Noah a command: to build an ark—300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. This ark would be the sole place of refuge for life to survive the coming flood.

Though Noah warned of the coming judgment, the people did not listen. They dismissed his words, yet Noah did not hesitate—he obeyed every instruction from God and faithfully continued building the ark.

“Come into the ark, you and all your household.” [Genesis 7:1] Noah entered with his wife, his three sons, and their wives. The clean animals entered in sevens, the unclean in pairs, and the birds of the air followed as God had commanded.

Then the fountains of the deep burst open, and the skies poured rain for forty days and nights. Water covered the earth, even over the highest mountains. All living things perished. “Only Noah and those with him in the ark remained alive.” [Genesis 7:23] Just as God had said, those inside the ark were the only ones saved.

Noah trusted in God's unseen word and took action. His obedience still speaks to us: even when God's promises seem distant or hard to grasp, those who walk in faith will find themselves held safely in His salvation.

Faith can often feel lonely, especially when outcomes seem uncertain. But God always remembers those who walk in His word. Just as Noah’s unnoticed obedience led to salvation, so too will we live within the promise when we quietly cling to God’s word and choose the path of faithful obedience.

Even today, may we be the ones who quietly stand before God’s word—unseen, but faithful.

어둠으로 가득한 세상 속에서도 하나님과 동행했던 노아의 이야기를 따라가 봅니다. 그의 순종을 통해 우리는 하나님의 구원과 자비의 마음을 엿볼 수 있습니다.

노아의 방주 – 심판 앞에 순종한 의로운 사람

[창세기 6:9–7:24]

그 시대는 죄악으로 가득했고, 온 세상이 어둠 속에 빠져 있었습니다. 그러나 노아는 하나님과 동행하며 의롭게 살아갔고, 타락한 세대 가운데 빛처럼 존재했습니다.

하나님께서는 땅의 포악함을 보시고 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “...모든 혈육 있는 자의 포악함이 땅에 가득하므로 그 끝 날이 내 앞에 이르렀으니...” [창세기 6:13] 그래서 하나님은 노아에게 방주를 지으라고 명하셨습니다. 길이 삼백 규빗, 너비 오십 규빗, 높이 삼십 규빗. 이 방주는 곧 닥칠 심판 속에서 생명을 지킬 유일한 피난처였습니다.

노아는 심판에 대한 경고를 전했지만, 사람들은 그의 말을 믿지 않았습니다. 그들은 조롱했지만, 노아는 흔들리지 않고 하나님의 말씀대로 묵묵히 방주를 지어갔습니다.

모든 준비가 끝났을 때 하나님은 다시 말씀하셨습니다. “...너와 네 온 집은 방주로 들어가라...” [창세기 7:1] 노아는 아내와 세 아들, 며느리들과 함께 방주에 들어갔습니다. 정결한 짐승은 일곱씩, 부정한 짐승은 둘씩, 새들도 하나님의 명령에 따라 방주에 들였습니다.

그때 깊음의 샘들이 터지고, 하늘의 창이 열리며 사십 주야 동안 비가 쏟아졌습니다. 물은 점점 높아져 산들을 덮었고, 살아 있는 모든 생명체가 끊어졌습니다. “...오직 노아와 그와 함께 방주에 있던 자들만 남았더라” [창세기 7:23] 하나님의 말씀대로, 방주 안에 있던 이들만이 심판을 피할 수 있었습니다.

노아는 눈에 보이지 않는 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 방주를 준비했습니다. 그의 순종은 오늘 우리에게 말해줍니다. 보이지 않아도, 다 이해되지 않아도 하나님의 말씀을 따르는 이들은 결국 구원의 자리로 인도된다는 사실을 말입니다.

믿음은 때로 외롭고, 결과가 보장되지 않은 듯 보일 때가 많습니다. 하지만 하나님은 늘 그분의 말씀을 따라 걷는 자들을 기억하십니다. 그 누구도 주목하지 않았던 노아의 순종이 하나님의 구원을 이루었듯이, 우리도 하나님의 말씀을 붙잡고 묵묵히 순종하는 길을 택할 때, 주님의 약속 안에서 살아가게 됩니다.

오늘도, 아무도 보지 않는 자리에서 말씀 앞에 서는 우리가 되기를 바랍니다.
