God Brought Light into the Chaos [Genesis 1:31]
At the very beginning, there was nothing—only darkness and disorder. But then, God spoke. That one word was the beginning of everything. Even now, His voice brings light into confusion.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
How did the world begin? We live in a complicated world now, but it started with nothing—not even light. There was no shape, no direction. And then God spoke, and the world began to move into order.
God created step by step over six days. On the first, He made light in the darkness. On the second, He stretched out the sky. On the third, He separated the land from the sea and made plants grow. On the fourth, He placed the sun, moon, and stars to mark time. On the fifth, He created fish and birds. And on the sixth, He formed animals—and finally, humans in His own image.
Then God gave the world to humankind and rested on the seventh day. That rest wasn’t just a break—it was a peace-filled declaration over everything He had made.
Throughout the creation story, one phrase repeats: “God saw that it was good.” And on the final day, it says:
“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)
God brings order in the middle of chaos. He never loses His purpose. I believe that’s still true for us today. Even when life feels messy and unpredictable, God’s plan is still unfolding.
If, today, you sense even a small touch of His hand—perhaps in a quiet moment or a gentle word—then maybe, just maybe, that day can be called “very good.”
To be honest, I used to find the Bible really difficult to read. I’d start Genesis with good intentions, but I couldn’t finish it. I must’ve read chapter one more times than I can count.
Last year, I joined a Bible reading project at church. With encouragement and structure, I began reading a little each day. Slowly but surely, I made it to the end.
Now I know—God’s guidance was over all that time. And if you’re reading this, I believe you’re in His plan too.

창조 이야기 – 하나님이 세상에 질서를 주신 이야기 [창세기 1:1–2:3]
처음 세상에는 아무것도 없었습니다. 어둠과 혼돈뿐이던 그곳에 하나님이 말씀하셨습니다. 아무것도 없던 세상에 하나님의 말씀으로 모든 것이 시작된 것입니다. 그분의 말씀은 지금도 혼란 속에 빛을 비추십니다.
보시기에 심히 좋았더라 [창세기 1:31]
창세기의 시작은 늘 묵직합니다. 아무것도 없던 그때, 오직 어둠과 혼돈뿐이었던 세상 속에 하나님의 음성이 들려왔습니다. 그 한마디가 바로 모든 것의 시작이었습니다.
“태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하시니라.” (창세기 1:1)
세상은 어떻게 시작되었을까요? 지금은 너무나 복잡한 이 세상도, 처음엔 빛조차 없었습니다. 모양도 없고, 방향도 없이 떠다니던 혼돈 속에 하나님이 말씀하셨고, 그 순간부터 세상이 움직이기 시작했지요.
하나님은 여섯 날 동안 세상을 차근차근 만드셨습니다. 첫째 날, 어둠 속에서 빛을 만드시고, 둘째 날에는 하늘을 펼치셨고, 셋째 날엔 땅과 바다를 나누시고 식물을 자라게 하셨습니다. 넷째 날엔 해와 달, 별들을 두셔서 때를 구분하게 하셨고, 다섯째 날엔 물고기와 새들을, 여섯째 날엔 짐승들과... 마침내 사람을 창조하셨습니다. 자신의 형상을 따라 말이지요.
그 후, 하나님은 사람에게 이 세상을 맡기셨고, 일곱째 날에는 안식하셨습니다. 그 쉼은 단순한 ‘휴식’이 아니라, 완성된 세상을 바라보며 선언하신 평화였어요.
세상이 만들어지는 창조의 이야기 속에는 계속해서 반복되는 말이 있습니다. “하나님이 보시기에 좋았더라.” 그리고 마지막 날엔, “보시기에 심히 좋았더라.” (창세기 1:31)고 말씀하셨습니다.
하나님은 무질서한 가운데도 질서를 세우시는 분이십니다. 그 분은 혼란 속에서도 목적을 잃지 않으십니다. 우리 삶도 마찬가지라고 생각합니다. 요즘처럼 뒤엉키고 들쑥날쑥한 날들 속에서도, 하나님의 계획은 여전히 살아 움직이고 있습니다.
오늘 하루, 아주 사소한 순간에라도 하나님의 손길을 느낄 수 있다면... 그 하루는 이미 '보시기에 좋았더라'라고 불릴 수 있지 않을까요?
사실 저는, 성경을 읽는 게 참 어려웠습니다. 몇 번이나 마음먹고 창세기를 시작했지만 늘 창세기를 끝내지 못했었죠. 창세기 1장만 몇 번을 읽었는지 모르겠어요.
작년에, 교회에서 진행하는 '성경일독'이라는 프로젝트에 참여하게 되었고, 많은 분들의 도움으로 숙제처럼 매일매일 정해진 양을 읽다보니 드디어, 마침내 저도 해내게 되었습니다.
이제는 저의 모든 시간 위에 하나님의 인도하심이 있었음을 알고 있어요. 그리고, 이 글을 읽는 여러분도 하나님의 계획 안에 있다는 사실을 믿어요.
