Created for Each Other – The Story of Adam and Eve in Eden

[Genesis 2:4–25]

God formed man from the dust of the ground. He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. The man became a living being and lived in the Garden of Eden.

God gave him the task of working and caring for the garden. Then God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” [Genesis 2:18] He needed a helper.

The term “helper” does not mean someone lesser. It means a companion—equal and complementary. Someone to share his purpose and walk beside him.

We are made in the image of God—to reflect His love through relationship. We were created not to be alone, but to walk together in purpose and grace.

Adam named the animals and birds, but found no one like himself. So God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. He took one of his ribs and made a woman.

When Adam saw her, he said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” [Genesis 2:23]

The man and woman became one flesh. They were both naked and felt no shame.

That day, Adam may have seen someone like him for the very first time. Someone God Himself had brought to him. His heart, in that moment, was likely deeper than words.

This was the beginning of love and responsibility under God’s design.

Whoever we walk with in life, we believe God’s hand is in that meeting. Love, calling, and companionship are all gifts God has prepared for us.

Am I living as a true companion today?
May I remember the love and responsibility God has given me, and honor the relationships He has placed in my life.

너를 위하여 돕는 배필 – 에덴의 사랑과 책임

[창세기 2:4–25]

하나님은 사람을 흙으로 지으시고, 그 코에 생기를 불어넣으셨습니다. 그는 생령이 되어, 에덴동산에 살게 되었습니다.

하나님은 그에게 동산을 경작하고 지키는 사명을 맡기셨습니다. 그리고 말씀하셨습니다. “...사람이 혼자 사는 것이 좋지 아니하니...” [창세기 2:18] 돕는 배필이 필요했습니다.

여기서 말하는 ‘돕는 배필’은 단순히 도움을 주는 사람이 아닙니다. 서로를 채우고 함께 걸어갈 동등한 동반자를 뜻합니다. 하나님은 아담이 사명을 감당할 수 있도록 그와 같은 존재를 예비하셨습니다.

우리는 하나님의 형상대로 지음받은 존재입니다. 서로를 위해, 관계 안에서 하나님의 사랑을 나타내도록 지어진 것입니다.

아담은 짐승들과 새들에게 이름을 주었지만, 자신과 같은 존재는 없었습니다.

하나님은 아담을 잠들게 하셨고, 그의 갈빗대로 여자를 만드셨습니다. 아담은 말했습니다. “...이는 내 뼈 중의 뼈요, 살 중의 살이라...” [창세기 2:23]

남자와 여자는 한 몸을 이루게 되었습니다. 벌거벗었지만 부끄러워하지 않았습니다.

그날, 아담은 자신과 같은 존재를 처음 보았을 것입니다. 하나님이 손수 이끄신 한 사람. 그 앞에 선 아담의 마음은, 말보다 깊었을 것입니다.

하나님 안에서 시작된 사랑과 책임의 첫 장면이었습니다.

우리가 누구와 함께 살아가든, 그 만남 속에 하나님의 손길이 있음을 믿습니다. 사랑도, 사명도, 책임도 모두 하나님이 예비하신 선물입니다.

나는 지금, 누군가의 배필로 살아가고 있을까요?
하나님이 내게 맡기신 사랑과 책임을 오늘도 기억하며, 그분이 주신 관계를 소중히 여기는 하루가 되기를 소망합니다.
